“…and so began my stewardship.”
Edith Bolling Wilson, First Lady to President Woodrow Wilson
These words were written by Edith Bolling Wilson in her autobiography My Memoir, describing a time in which some historians refer to her as “The Secret President” and “The First Woman President.” These titles were bestowed upon her when her husband, President Woodrow Wilson was incapacitated by a stroke. Mrs. Wilson was viewed as assuming many of his governmental duties.
The Edith Bolling Wilson Birthplace Foundation and Museum is steward to the history and birthplace of one of the most influential, controversial, and politically significant women of the twentieth century.
